Make no bones about it, it gets cold on safari. African winters, open Land Rovers, early mornings and late evenings, land-locked countries and high altitudes all contribute to the mix. You should pack a jacket or fleece for all safaris, as well as a waterproof layer if travelling over the time of the African rains. For the winter definitely opt for a long sleeve jacket or fleece, and for the summer either a long sleeve or a gilet jacket or fleece. Keep in mind that the hotter the temperatures at midday, the earlier you will go on safari, which means the cooler it will be.
