Please read the instructions below this size chart before ordering. We have indicated whether this size chart uses body or garment measurements in the notes below the size chart. Allow 1cm variance for all garment measurements (as an example a 56cm garment measurement has a variance of 55-57cm. Please factor that into deciding on the size to order.)

⊙ We have shown the Body measurement for the full chest in the size chart above. Body measurements are approximates.
⊙ For the Full Chest Body measurement measure around your body: under your arms and around the fullest part of your chest.
⊙ The Waist measurement matches the chest measurement for all sizes - apart from Small and Medium where the waist measurement is marginally less than the chest (about 2 cm less on the full waist measurement).

⊙ Garment Measurements - the best way to work out the size you need: To assist you with choosing the right size, we have also included the garment measurements for the Half Chest for this shirt below. If you are not sure which size to order, we recommend checking both the body and garment measurements - but using garments measurements is the best way to work out your size. If you are still not sure about your size please do contact us so we may assist you, before you order. It may also be a good idea to first place a smaller order to check on your size, and then place a larger order once you are sure of your size.

⊙ How to Measure the half chest garment measurement for this shirt:
-Select a long sleeve, button-up, collared shirt which you own and which is a good fit - and which looks similar in design to the shirt which you are ordering.
-Place the shirt flat on a table. The half chest measurement is made from the point where each sleeve meets the chest area of the shirt, across the front of the shirt, as shown on the image below.
-It is important that you gently pull the shirt flat from each side so that it is truly as flat as it can be, as we have shown in the image below. No creases or wrinkles as that will affect the measurement.
-Record the measurement for your shirt in either inches or centimeters.
-Compare the measurement to our size chart to determine the size to order, as follows:
1. Lets say that your measurement comes to 53cm / 20.6 inches across the half chest.
2. Allow 1cm tolerance for our size chart (the international standard for all clothing measurements). As an example, with the international tolerance included, our Medium shirt in the garment size chart below is 'allowed' to measure between 55 and 57cm, as the half chest measurement is 56cm.
3. For your shirt which measured 53cm / 20.6 inches, we would suggest that you order a Medium shirt. Should you prefer to wear your shirts more loose, then a Large may fit you too.

Introduction:
This is the latest in our range of essential men’s long-sleeve safari shirts - with the same expedition and safari-tested insect defence, wicking, UPF50+, and design features tailored to Africa & outdoors.

Our ultimate outdoor shirt for men has evolved to combine BUGTech™ technical features with a new standard of comfort. Offering tried and trusted anti-insect defence, UPF50+ sun protection, and wicking, it is also made from the softest, lightest ripstop yet.

BUGTech™: It's In the Fabric of Who We Are
⊙ The mantra behind our Rufiji™ and Mara&Meru™ clothing is "No marketing hype - just the facts" - and so we embarked on intensive in-house and independent testing to make sure BUGTech™ performed.
⊙ BUGTech™ fabric has been proven in independent tests by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) Pesticide Trial Section to effectively repel mosquitoes. Please view the test results in the images above. We know of no other manufacturer willing to publish their results.
⊙ The active ingredient in our BUGTech™ fabric is permethrin, which is used at the ultra low dosage of 500ppm. Permethrin is a man-made version of a natural insect repellent found in certain Chrysanthemum plants. BUGTech™ utilises a proprietary permethrin formula to provide effective, odourless insect defence.
⊙ BUGTech™ is effective against most biting insects. The formula which we apply to give BUGTech™ its anti-insect properties should also give protection against bites from a host of insects including mosquitoes, ticks, midges, bed bugs, fleas, and ants. This is according to the makers of the formula which gives BUGTech™ the anti-insect finish. Note that we have only tested BUGTech™ for use against mosquitoes.
⊙ The wicking effect of many anti-insect clothing brands is retarded by the addition of anti-insect finish. This traps heat and can be very uncomfortable. In developing BUGTech™, we wanted to ensure our clients got the technical benefits of our highly-successful SAFARITech fabric with added invaluable insect defence. We have tested and compared BUGTech™ and SAFARITech and concluded that the wicking has not been affected by the anti-insect treatment of our BUGTech™ garments.
⊙ Biting flies (such as the tsetse fly): We make no claim that BUGTech™ will work against tsetse flies and other biting flies. In our experience - and after many field tests in tsetse and biting fly areas - Bushman is the best product when it comes to deterring biting flies, but we do not claim that it gives 100% protection (as nothing we know of is able to do that). When in tsetse fly areas, apply Bushman frequently and generously. Shop for Bushman by going to: Accessories - Insect Repellents.
⊙ BUGTech™ lasts approximately 20 washes. Note that, for any anti-insect finish on a garment, you should always back up the garment with a good insect repellent. It is worth noting too that the tight weave of our BUGTech™ (and SAFARITech fabric) has been shown to also offer a measure of protection against mosquitoes.

A long-sleeve shirt is essential for all safari and warm-weather destinations. This shirt effectively wicks moisture away from the skin - with the +Vent system to promote ventilation. This assists in keeping you cool when the weather gets hot.
BUGTech™ also features built-in UPF50+ sun protection. All these fabric benefits come with an exceptionally soft hand feel, in ripstop which is feather-light for a touch of luxury in its practicality.

With sun protection in mind, keep your sleeves down to protect your forearms. Roll up and secure your sleeves with a double roll-up sleeve tab to hold them in place on each sleeve as the day heats up or according to your preference. This evolution in our shirt design is to keep your sleeves rolled up and looking neat - even on active safaris. Trust us, you will be glad to have that extra sleeve tab if your shirt gets wet on a canoe safari.

Every outdoorsman wants the benefit of travel-friendly shirts to reduce packing weight and keep him on the go. In new small ripstop, this safari shirt is ultra-lightweight and durable, releasing wrinkles quickly. Its anti-bacterial technology keeps your shirt fresh between washes. It also dries quickly, with styling that is right at home in the bush or at dinner.

If you hook your sunglasses over your shirt, the sunglasses loop on the inside of the shirt is a feature for you - helping you to hold on to your shades when you're on the move.

* The BUGtech™ fabric can be worn by all ages. The active ingredient has been approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for application onto textiles and clothing. It is non-leaching. I.e. it won't transfer from the fabric / garment onto the wearer's skin.
* While the sunglasses loop reduces the chances of losing your glasses, it may not prevent them falling from your shirt in every instance. Please always be vigilant when it comes to your precious eye wear.

⊙ MATERIAL: Made from 100% tightly-woven ripstop BUGTech™ fabric. Ripstop gives the fabric strength and it is smooth to the touch. This strong, soft, light material combines the best of MaraTech™ and BUGTech™ to offer you comfort, style, and protection on safari and when travelling. Creases are quickly released after unpacking and the fabric is quick to dry for your convenience. Anti-bacterial technology also keeps your shirt smelling fresh between washes.

⊙ BUILT-IN INSECT DEFENCE: Independent testing of our BUGTech™ fabric has confirmed the effectiveness of its anti-insect properties without compromising on its moisture wicking ability, which is often the case within the industry.

⊙ WICKING: Strong, cool BUGTech™ fabric draws perspiration away from skin and promotes quick evaporation for maximum dryness and comfort.

⊙ UPF50+: The Ultraviolet Protection Factor is a measure of the amount of the sun's ultraviolet rays that reach your skin. Our BUGTech™ fabric will protect your skin from harmful sun exposure - in effect, sunblock for your clothing. This is the highest UPF rating we know of on a garment.

⊙ +VENT SYSTEM: This shirt includes our +Vent system. This system increases the flow of air around your body by including hidden vents along the seam-line of the back, top section of the shirt.

⊙ ROLL-UP SLEEVE TABS: Roll up and secure the sleeves of this long-sleeved shirt for flexibility and convenience. The double tabs on each sleeve secure the sleeves when they're rolled up but remain hidden when sleeves are down.

I bought a couple of shirts for a 5-day safari in Tanzania (this one and the Everyday one), both of which were comfortable to wear and functional, the material is light, quick drying and pleasant to the touch. Perfect for a safari!

We have just returned from a trip to Amboseli and The Mara and I wanted to drop a note simply to say thanks very much for the Explorer BUGtech safari shirt which I bought from you and which was a delight to wear. It stayed freshest out of all my safari shirts and lived up to all the promises. Comfortable, cool, easy to wash and quick to dry - I’ll be back for more! I am aware our nature is generally to communicate when we have an issue with something - and so simply wanted to let you know I was sufficiently impressed with the shirt I wanted to counter-balance with some strong positive feedback and appreciation of such a good product!

I bought 2 of these shirts in 2011. They are still in regular use, though coming to the end of their life. They were bought for the ease of washing/drying. I had not expected them to last this long. I use them at least twice a week every week on a ranch in Kenya.
