These lightweight, anti-insect safari trousers allow you to decide the length: full length, 3/4 capris, or safari shorts. The Explorer safari trousers are without doubt the best convertible trousers. These trousers have both a button with fly zip & a drawstring to fasten at the waist - with belt loops too. Should you prefer to not use the drawstring then simply remove from the trousers once you receive them and checked that they fit.

Allow 1cm variance for all garment measurements (as an example a 56cm garment measurement has a variance of 55-57cm. Please factor that into deciding on the size to order.)

The measurements shown above are garment measurements so should be compared to another garment rather than your body measurements. 1/2 Waist Measurement Note: These trousers are made with an elasticated waistband and a built-in drawstring so that the best fit is that much easier to achieve. The size chart shows both 1/2 Waist (relaxed), and 1/2 Waist (slightly stretched). Once you have measured your own trousers to get the 1/2 waist measurement for them using the instruction below, simply find the range on our size chart into which your trousers' 1/2 waist measurement falls and you should then get your size right. For example if your trousers measure between 43.5cm and 48.5 cm (17 inches to 19.1 inches) for the 1/2 waist, then you would order our size Large.

Three easy steps to ordering the right size:

STEP 1:
You will need the following items:
• Measuring tape
• A flat surface (such as a table or counter)
• A notepad and pen
• An item of clothing from your wardrobe that fits comfortably and is a similar style to the one you wish to purchase

How to measure chest/bust/arm/back

STEP 2:
Referring to the images above, place your garment on a flat surface and record the following measurements:
A. 1/2 Waist: Measure across the top of the waistband from corner to corner.
B. Front Rise: Measure from the top of the front waistband to the crotch seam;
C. Inside Leg: Measure from the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg hem.

STEP 3:
Compare your measurements with our size chart and order the size closest to those measurements. 1/2 Waist is usually the most important measurement if you are in a hurry, but checking all three will make for the most comfortable fit.

TIP: If you do not have a measuring tape, use your credit card. The long side of a credit card measures 8.5cm and the short side is 5.4cm. Simply use the centimetre measurements on our chart and divide by 8.5cm to get an idea of how many credit card lengths equals the measurement you are recording.

Luggage weight restrictions are common on safari and packing light can be challenging. These BUGTech™ men’s zip-off trousers present the perfect solution, providing real style flexibility and packing convenience and a host of features for the outdoorsman.

These convertible trousers are made from our latest ultra-lightweight BUGTech™ fabric with micro-ripstop and a soft hand feel for comfort. In addition to anti-insect properties, these trousers feature moisture wicking, lab-tested UPF50+ sun protection, and an anti-microbial finish.

They have also been designed with classic cargo pants in mind, combining the best of utility and comfort. The elasticated waist also has a button, fly, and belt loops, as well as a drawstring tipped with antique brass tips. From sitting on planes and game-viewers to walking through the bush on multi-day walking safaris, they are all about comfort.

Would rather wear shorts? Roll up the trouser legs and secure them with the buttons and tabs to convert your trousers into a pair of three-quarters or zip off the legs at the knee for a pair of stylish safari shorts.

The trousers have six pockets in total, making these real utility trousers for the outdoors. They have two hand pockets and back pockets, as well as two zipped cargo pockets with a pull tab on each flap for easy accessibility in the field.

BUGTech™: it's in the fabric of who we are
Anti-insect clothing very rarely offers effective wicking properties, with the fabric trapping heat and sacrificing comfort for insect defence. This was one of the key issues we sought to avoid in developing our BUGTech™ range. We wanted our clients to enjoy the same features and comfort level they had come to expect from our MaraTech™ range with the added advantage of insect defence for their safaris, adventure travels, and outdoor experiences.

• As a result, BUGTech™ has been tested, refined, and re-tested on safari, but also in some rather extreme conditions on expedition around Africa. We are happy to report that the wicking properties of our fabric is unhindered by the anti-insect treatment.
• Apart from our in-house tests, we wanted to offer our clients the added assurance of independent tests. In tests conducted by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), BUGTech™ fabric was proven to offer defence against most biting insects. We are unaware of any other manufacturer willing to publish their results.
• The active ingredient in our BUGTech™ fabric is permethrin which is used at the ultra low dosage of 500ppm. Permethrin is a man-made version of a natural insect repellent found in certain Chrysanthemum plants. BUGTech™ utilises a proprietary permethrin formula to provide effective, odourless insect defence.
• BUGTech™ is effective against most biting insects.

• 30° cold wash

Always follow the wash care instructions on the label on your garment.

⊙ ANTI-INSECT FINISH: BUGTech™ lasts approximately 20 washes. Note that, for any anti-insect finish on a garment, you should always back up the garment with a good insect repellent. It is worth noting too that the tight weave of our BUGTech™ (and SAFARITech fabric) has been shown to also offer a measure of protection against mosquitoes.
