Packing light is easy with these convertible pants in BUGTech™ fabric. Full-length lightweight trousers, capris, or a pair of outdoor & safari shorts, get three outdoor garments in one (29” and 32” leg options). These trousers have both a button with fly zip & a drawstring to fasten at the waist - with belt loops too. Should you prefer to not use the drawstring then simply remove from the trousers once you receive them and checked that they fit. New Fit: Please see size chart for details on the new fit sizes.

Allow 1cm variance for all garment measurements (as an example a 56cm garment measurement has a variance of 55-57cm. Please factor that into deciding on the size to order.)

NEW FIT: From June 2022 we have introduced a new fit for the Women's Pioneer Zip-off trousers. This new fit has an increased hip and thigh measurement to allow for less of a straight fit, and a more standard hip measurement which should suit more women. The new fit 1/2 hip size is shown on the size chart above.

1/2 Waist Measurement Note: These trousers are made with an elasticated waistband and a built-in drawstring so that the best fit is that much easier to achieve. The size chart shows both 1/2 Waist (relaxed), and 1/2 Waist (slightly stretched). Once you have measured your own trousers to get the 1/2 waist measurement for them using the instruction below, simply find the range on our size chart into which your trousers' 1/2 waist measurement falls and you should then get your size right. For example if your trousers measure between 39.5cm and 42.5 cm (15.5 inches to 16.7 inches) for the 1/2 waist, then you would order our size Small. Please do note the hip measurement though which may change which size you select based on your hip size.
Three easy steps to ordering the right size:

STEP 1:
You will need the following items:
• Measuring tape
• A flat surface (such as a table or counter)
• A notepad and pen
• An item of clothing from your wardrobe that fits comfortably and is a similar style to the one you wish to purchase

How to measure chest/bust/arm/back

STEP 2:
Referring to the images above, place your garment on a flat surface and record the following measurements:
A. 1/2 Waist: Measure across the top of the waistband from corner to corner.
B. Front Rise: Measure from the top of the front waistband to the crotch seam;
C. Inside Leg: Measure from the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg hem.
D. HIP: This is measured 20cm (7.8 inches) down from the waist and then straight across your trousers, as shown in the image below.
How to measure hip

STEP 3:
Compare your measurements with our size chart and order the size closest to those measurements. 1/2 Waist is usually the most important measurement if you are in a hurry, but checking all three will make for the most comfortable fit.

TIP: If you do not have a measuring tape, use your credit card. The long side of a credit card measures 8.5cm and the short side is 5.4cm. Simply use the centimetre measurements on our chart and divide by 8.5cm to get an idea of how many credit card lengths equals the measurement you are recording.

Packing light is easy with these convertible pants in BUGTech™ fabric. Full-length lightweight trousers, capris, or a pair of outdoor & safari shorts, get three outdoor garments in one (29” and 32” leg options).

There is a margin of clever packing required for many outdoor adventures and on safaris. This is primarily because of the luggage restrictions on small charter transfers. These women’s convertible trousers offer an easy solution – with a range of features for convenience, comfort, and protection as you travel. Made for the outdoors & safari, you will wear these trousers over and over again on all outdoor adventures.

In our latest BUGTech™ fabric, these trousers offer invaluable insect defence, moisture wicking, and laboratory-tested UPF50+ sun protection. All this can be enjoyed in feather-light micro-ripstop fabric, which is cool and has an unparalleled soft hand feel for comfort. They also have an anti-microbial finish, quick-dry fabric features, and releases wrinkles fast for travel ease.

Three garments in one, these full-length trousers can be rolled and secured with internal tabs to be worn as a pair of stylish capris. They also zip off at the knee to easily become a pair of anti-insect outdoor & safari shorts as the day heats up or to suit your preference according to the day’s activities.

Modelled on the classic cargo trouser design, these outdoor & safari pants have four functional pockets – two hand pockets and two zipped cargo pockets. The cargo pockets also have handy pull tabs so you can access your belongings as quickly as possible. They also have two decorative slit back pockets to enhance the styling of these trousers and shorts.

With an elasticated waist and drawstring, the fit is all about comfort whether on walks and active safaris or seated on planes or game-viewers. They also have a button and fly for styling and fit, as well as belt loops.

BUGTech™: It's In the Fabric of Who We Are
⊙ The mantra behind our Rufiji™ and Mara&Meru™ clothing is "No marketing hype - just the facts" - and so we embarked on intensive in-house and independent testing to make sure BUGTech™ performed.
⊙ BUGTech™ fabric has been proven in independent tests by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) Pesticide Trial Section to effectively repel mosquitoes. Please view the test results in the images above. We know of no other manufacturer willing to publish their results.
⊙ The active ingredient in our BUGTech™ fabric is permethrin, which is used at the ultra low dosage of 500ppm. Permethrin is a man-made version of a natural insect repellent found in certain Chrysanthemum plants. BUGTech™ utilises a proprietary permethrin formula to provide effective, odourless insect defence.
⊙ BUGTech™ is effective against most biting insects. The formula which we apply to give BUGTech™ its anti-insect properties should also give protection against bites from a host of insects including mosquitoes, ticks, midges, bed bugs, fleas, and ants. This is according to the makers of the formula which gives BUGTech™ the anti-insect finish. Note that we have only tested BUGTech™ for use against mosquitoes.
⊙ The wicking effect of many anti-insect clothing brands is retarded by the addition of anti-insect finish. This traps heat and can be very uncomfortable. In developing BUGTech™, we wanted to ensure our clients got the technical benefits of our highly-successful SAFARITech fabric with added invaluable insect defence. We have tested and compared BUGTech™ and SAFARITech and concluded that the wicking has not been affected by the anti-insect treatment of our BUGTech™ garments.
⊙ Biting flies (such as the tsetse fly): We make no claim that BUGTech™ will work against tsetse flies and other biting flies. In our experience - and after many field tests in tsetse and biting fly areas - Bushman is the best product when it comes to deterring biting flies, but we do not claim that it gives 100% protection (as nothing we know of is able to do that). When in tsetse fly areas, apply Bushman frequently and generously. Shop for Bushman by going to: Accessories - Insect Repellents.
⊙ BUGTech™ lasts approximately 20 washes. Note that, for any anti-insect finish on a garment, you should always back up the garment with a good insect repellent. l love these pants. They are very lightweight , yet not sheer at all. The elastic waist guarantees a comfortable fit; and love that it is available in two inseam lengths.
